I’ve been using my new HTML5, CSS3, and responsive web design skills, learned in an Advanced Web Design course taught by Chris Kavinsky at CCAD in coding this new website for Bluesail Companies. Barbara-Raye Taylor developed the layout and wrote the copy. You can view the website at Bluesailco.com

All design elements other than the photos and logo, such as the gray frames and boxes, the horizontal lines that fade at the ends, and the animated pop-up captions, are created solely through HTML and CSS coding rather than being uploaded image elements. This is the new direction for web design as it allows much faster uploads and design adaptations to mobile and tablet screens.

A responsive web design incorporates planned design changes in response to the various ranges of size, resolution, and likely purpose of visitors using different devices to view the website. Someone visiting a website on their smart phone is often most interested in a fast upload of key information such as fast and easy access to the phone number, email address, business hours, and location map.

On smart phones with a high resolution, such as the iPhone, text needs to get larger in scale to be readable on the small screen. Without responsive coding, the website will display in miniature with text too small to read. The smart phone adds a brighter blue and an underline to indicated that it will dial the phone number when touched.

This monarch emerged from its chrysalis August 27, 2010

Faith Pruden was a first grader, with a wonderful zest for life when she was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in February 2010 and very little time left. She got her wings on August 7th 2010, 6 months later. She touched many hearts with her love and courage, and is missed by all.
